You’ve edited and refined your resume. You’ve applied to dozens of jobs only to receive generic rejection email templates. The truth is career uncertainty is something most of us will navigate at some point in our lives, but the good news is outside circumstances don’t have to dictate your story.

If you are feeling stuck right now, the most powerful thing you can do is take one step. Rach shared on a recent podcast that you don’t have to know what is 20 miles down the road, but you do just have to take one step. Analysis paralysis will keep you stuck, but you get to decide who you are and what is next for you. You just have to be resourceful with what you’ve got. Here are some practical steps to move forward and navigate uncertainty in your career.

Be Strategic With Your Time

Applying to jobs in a difficult job market can feel like throwing spaghetti at a wall and hoping for something to stick. But the truth is the more you apply to just any and every job, the less likely you are to land meaningful work. In the interim of looking for work you’re passionate about, make the most of your time by getting a temp, short-term, or part-time job to pay your bills. This way you are doing something that generates income and removes the immediate pressure to find the perfect, long-term job.

This also frees you up to be more choosy and find a job that you are passionate about. Because at the end of the day, you are trading your time for someone else’s money. The more value you provide for that exchange, the better.

Call Your Shot

We know it’s stressful when you’re on the hunt for work, but dont let that fear push you into making a bad choice. Set your intention for your job search at the beginning (or do it today if you haven’t already) by identifying your dream companies to work for. Which brands do you admire? Which companies would you love to work for? Not sure? Start following your favorite brands on social media (especially LinkedIn) to catch their vibe. Keep a note in your phone called “Dream Companies” and add to it any time something new and fun crosses your path. This allows you to focus on positive thoughts around your job search (crucial for self confidence when you land the interview) and allows you to consider entry-point jobs at ideal companies you may not have considered if you were only focused on the “dream job”.

Customize Your Resume and Cover Letter for Each Job

When you apply for a job that is aligned with where you want to be, be sure to adjust your cover letter and resume for the job you are applying for. ChatGPT, or whatever your AI chatbot of preference is, is a great tool for customizing your resume and cover letter. Start by copying and pasting the job description you are applying for into ChatGPT. Then, upload your resume. Prompt ChatGPT with the task: “Tell me where to adjust this resume to highlight the way my past experience makes me a great candidate for this job.” Ask the AI chatbot to help you rewrite your resume or highlight areas where your skillset is great for the job.

Find Temporary Work That Excites You

As you are looking for a “bridge” or an in-between job, choose something that you enjoy. If you love espresso and creamy coffee, then look for work as a barista. If you love animals, then go apply to the local animal shelter. If you are an avid book reader, then apply to work at a bookstore or library. By finding something you are interested in, you will elevate your energy and fall in love with your life. Your time is valuable, so in this time of job uncertainty, doing work you are interested in will reduce stress and help you enjoy your day. That elevated vibration will attract more opportunities and open you up to possibilities you might’ve once missed.

Consider Remote Work

Don’t overlook remote work as an option. The great thing about remote work is that it opens the door to companies across the country or even the globe where the job market is potentially better than the city you live in. So change those job filters to remote work. There are countless opportunities for full-time and part-time remote work in various industries.

Look for the Good Stuff

When navigating job uncertainty, it can be easy to fixate on the reality of a downturned job market. But the truth is whatever you look for, you will find. So every time you say things like, “I can’t find a job in this market,” or “There are no jobs right now,” you are reaffirming a negative belief and rewiring your brain to look for that. Your brain will focus on what you tell it to and on what you decide is important or true.

Instead, take note of whatever you can that is positive about the job search. Maybe it’s a really well-written, intriguing job description or a cool company in your industry that piques your interest, but you can always choose to look for the good stuff.

Choose an Affirmation That Feels True

Whether it’s a word or a sentence, affirmations assert or declare something. They are something you say over and over that affirm that is what is coming and that is what is true. But remember, your brain is powerful. When an affirmation does not line up with your lived experiences, your subconscious calls BS. There is a disconnect between what you are saying is true and what is really happening. So your subconscious mind doesn’t believe it, and you won’t see positive results. Instead, find an affirmation that feels true and is about what you can control, even in uncertainty. For example, you might say, “I am strong and confident, and when I get the job interview, I am going to knock it out of the park.”

How to Be More Productive at Work https://msrachelhollis.com/2023/10/19/how-to-be-more-productive-at-work/ Thu, 19 Oct 2023 19:54:41 +0000 https://msrachelhollis.com/?p=51988 How to be More Productive at Work: A Five-Step Guide to Achieving Your Goals

I am going to make an assumption here… I’m going to assume that you’re a lot like me in terms of how much responsibility you have. I’m guessing you’ve got people (your family, your friends, your crew at work) who need you. That means we’re all constantly bombarded with demands on our time and attention. Between work, family, and personal commitments, it can feel almost impossible to add personal and professional goals into the mix. How on earth do we find the extra time to pursue a goal? And when we do find the time, how can we then be more productive at work in the allotted time we have?

I’d love to share my best advice for how you can achieve more in a day then most other people do all week long. In fact, I made a full podcast about this if you prefer to get your advice in audio form.

Now, before I tell you how to be more productive at work, I’d love to just establish why I think I’ve got some pretty great wisdom on this particular topic. In the last ten years, I’ve written 11 books (published 9 of them), written a screenplay (more on that later), launched endless products for my business, grown and sustained a high 8-figure business, run 14 half marathons, 2 full marathons and completed the Everesting Challenge all while raising 4 kids! If there’s one person who knows how to be more productive at work– it’s me, y’all!

With the right strategies and a focused mindset, you can accomplish more than you ever thought possible. So, let’s explore five key steps to boost your productivity, be more productive at work and make the most of your day.

1. Find YOUR Best Time of Day to Work

One of the most critical factors in improving productivity is understanding your own natural rhythms and energy levels. I am at my best in the morning, my CFO swears by late night productivity. Everyone has a specific time of day when they’re most alert, focused, and motivated. It’s essential to identify your peak productivity hours and align your most challenging tasks with that time.

For instance, if you’re a morning person like me, tackle complex and important tasks in the early hours. If you’re more of a night owl, save your critical work for later in the day. By working with your internal clock rather than against it, you’ll find that you can accomplish tasks more efficiently and with higher quality.

2. Get Clarity on Your Goal

Being more productive at work isn’t just about doing more; it’s about doing the right things. Before diving into any task, take the time to clarify your goals. Define what you want to achieve, both in the short term and the long term. Having a clear sense of purpose will guide your actions and keep you on track.

It’s essential to break down your goals into smaller, actionable steps. This not only makes your objectives more achievable but also helps you maintain focus. When you know exactly what you’re working toward, you’ll be more motivated and less likely to get sidetracked.

3. Create a Plan Before You Begin

Now that you have a clear goal in mind, it’s time to create a plan. Remember in my book, Girl Stop Apologizing when I taught you how to create a road map to your goal? To be more productive at work, you have to implement that strategy. If you don’t have a plan, you’re way less likely to actually achieve the thing you want to achieve. It’s shocking how few people actually create an agenda before they begin their work. I have plans for my long term goals and I also create an agenda, or what I call a “results list” before I begin each work day.

Remember to set realistic expectations for what you can accomplish in a given time frame. Overloading your schedule can lead to burnout and decreased productivity. Instead, focus on quality and consistency over quantity.

4. Eliminate Distractions

Bruce Lee had this quote I love. He said, “Hack away at the unessential.” It’s such a good reminder for me. In today’s digital age, distractions are everywhere. Social media, email, constant notifications – all these things can keep you from being productive at work. But they’re not the only thing… I get way more distracted by bright shiny ideas that sort of seem like my work, but are often just me avoiding what needs to be done. This happened all the time when I was first trying to write a book. I’d spend all of my work time “writing” but really I was just editing the same first chapter over and over. Busy work disguised as real work is why we get discouraged and give up on projects. It’s essential that you use your work time to work on the result you want, not just work on anything that seems exciting.

Start by identifying your most common distractions. Is it your smartphone, chatty coworkers, or your own version of a bright shiny idea? Once you’ve pinpointed the culprits, take action to address them. Creating a distraction-free workspace can significantly enhance your productivity. When you eliminate interruptions, you can immerse yourself in your work and complete tasks more efficiently.

5. Find the Best Working Environment for You

The physical environment in which you work can have a significant impact on your productivity. While some people thrive in a bustling, open office space, others may prefer a quiet, isolated room. It’s crucial to determine what type of working environment suits you best. I like to save different types of work for different environments. For instance, a busy coffee shop is great for buzzy tasks like programming social. If I need focus to write my next book, I’d have to put in headphones so I’m not distracted by the noise– it’s no surprise that how I’ve written the bulk of my books is very early in the morning before my kids wake up. The house is quiet and it’s my best energy of the day.

We don’t always have control over where we get to work, but whenever possible, experiment with different workspaces to identify your optimal setting. Some people find that working in a coffee shop or a library can boost their creativity and focus. Others may need complete silence and solitude to concentrate. Once you’ve found your ideal working environment, make an effort to create it or seek it out regularly.

The most important thing to remember about how to be more productive at work (or in any area of your life) is that nobody is born productive. Productivity is a skill just like driving a car or using a computer. You can teach yourself to be more productive at work utilizing time management, focus, and understanding your own working preferences. By finding your best time of day to work, clarifying your goals, creating a plan, eliminating distractions, and creating the best working environment for you, you can significantly increase your efficiency and accomplish more in less time.

Remember that productivity is a journey, and it’s okay to make adjustments as you learn more about what works best for you. With dedication and these strategies, you’ll be well on your way to mastering productivity and achieving your goals.

What I Learned from Meeting OPRAH https://msrachelhollis.com/2020/03/10/what-i-learned-from-meeting-oprah/ Tue, 10 Mar 2020 10:21:01 +0000 https://msrachelhollis.com/?p=51043 So in the middle of 2016, I made a decision that I would no longer speak on other people’s stages unless it was a friend. And that’s how RISE was born…I knew that it meant that I wasn’t going to be able to meet as many of you guys, but I made this decision because that meant that I was going to be able to stay at home more with my family and that is my number one priority. And the only exception I would make is if Oprah called.

I’ve been writing for years and years in my start today journal that I wanted to speak on Oprah Winfrey’s stage. “I will speak on Oprah Winfrey’s stage.” Fast forward to fall 2019, when their team called and asked me if I wanted to come be a speaker! I mean. OH. MY. GOD. YES & YES.

What a crazy experience y’all. Meeting Oprah. Meeting my hero. It was awesome, but I definitely learned a few things from this once in a lifetime opportunity.

rachel hollis oprah, rachel hollis meets oprah, oprah vision tour, rachel hollis vision tour

1// Know your standards.

One of the things I have learned in the last two years, even the biggest opportunity needs to be run through the parameters of what makes sense for YOU. Meaning, in every scenario of your life and business, what is the standard for the work you want to do? What are YOUR standards? If you don’t set your own, people will keep knocking it lower and lower.

2 // Difference between an alpha male and an alpha female.

I’ve spoken on stage for both men and women, and one of my experiences was absolutely devastating after speaking for someone who I admired. He didn’t come out and acknowledge me at all or thank me, and I had the exact opposite experience with Oprah. She is one of the classiest women I know, and she had zero reason to come and hang out with me or with my friends backstage. She hugged us. Made us feel seen. And we felt so acknowledged. And all I know is the day that I can’t come out and thank people who have come to speak on my stage, is the day that I cannot do this anymore. Because I DO NOT want to be that person.

3 // I would rather fail as myself, rather than succeed pretending to be someone I’m not.

If you’ve ever been to my RISE conference you know the tampon story, and if you haven’t, get your hearts ready because it’s coming up in my next book. But, I basically got up on Oprah’s stage and knew I was going to tell this story because this is me. This is who I am. And it didn’t matter if Oprah wasn’t into it because she’s not who I’m doing my work for. I can’t control how my message is being received, but I will continue to put it out there because it needs to be there. The real parts, the ugly parts, the truth, and in doing that, other women can find the permission to do the same.

4// No matter what level you’re at, the only way you’re going to grow is if you get out over your skis.

I’m not going to lie. The day of Oprah, I was like “I wish I hadn’t said yes, and I wish was at home.” But then I had to basically “Rachel Hollis” myself and understand that this challenge is exactly what I need. The idea here is that you’re leaning so far forward that you’re losing balance. You’ve got to put yourself in situations where you’re worried you’re going to fail, and you have to get to the other side to succeed. You have to challenge yourself. You have to be afraid. You have to get uncomfortable. So the question is are you willing to stay here and stay stuck? Or are you gonna step up??

If you want the full story and alllll the deets, you gotta listen to the podcast

My Personal Growth Journey https://msrachelhollis.com/2019/11/01/my-personal-growth-journey/ Fri, 01 Nov 2019 16:51:33 +0000 https://thechicsite.com/?p=50558 Where are my overworked mamas out there? Or my ladies with anxiety? Let me tell ya sis. I’ve been there. I’ve done the late nights crying because I am so exhausted. I have had days, even months where doing daily tasks felt like a huge accomplishment.

If you’ve read Girl, Wash Your Face then you know the health problems I’ve worked through. I used to have debilitating anxiety. I used to get so stressed that my body was physically getting ill. It was at that point that I decided I needed help. I went to therapy, I hashed through the traumas of my life, my insecurities, and it worked.

I’m all about personal growth. I’m one of the biggest dreamers out there. But I think it’s important to look at where you’ve gone to know where you are heading. If you can’t own your past, how will you ever own your future?

I became more intentional with my life choices. I read stacks of personal growth books. Listened to hours of podcasts. I did everything I could to try to be a better mother, wife, and entrepreneur. I strived to grow in all the areas of my life. But I could have gotten there faster if I had a mentor or a tribe of women. I had days where all I wished was that I had a community of women to say – me too. A place where I could connect with a community to lift up other women and share my struggles too. That’s why I try to create an environment and community where women are able to inspire one another and lift each other up. Where women can say, “Hey, I’ve been through that.” This is what inspired me to start my new coaching series. So that women can have the opportunity to not only be coached by me every month but also be immersed in this community that is fixated on personal growth and reaching for more.

Build a Killer Social Media Presence https://msrachelhollis.com/2019/05/15/build-a-killer-social-media-presence/ Wed, 15 May 2019 14:00:54 +0000 https://msrachelhollis.com/?p=47291 A popular question I get from the community, bloggers, and small business professionals is “How do I get the attention of brands to my social media platforms?” and our answer is always the same… wear a banana costume, film yourself slipping on a banana peel, upload it, and go viral I’m totally kidding and please never do that! BUT there’s an important lesson in this lame joke; you don’t want to be known for the wrong reason. Here are the most important tips on the RIGHT way to build a substantial social media presences.

Build Your Brand– The number one way to get other companies to notice you is to build up your personal brand. A personal brand is how the rest of the world sees you. Define your brand before moving forward, cause without a clear answer; it’ll be difficult to grow a sustainable following. Branding took me years to figure out, but once I did, it became the most essential tool in my business tool belt. It will help you build your company for years. I offer monthly live business coaching on topics like social media, marketing, and emails because that’s how vital I believe it is. Once you know your brand, then you will create brand recognition, and that’s what will get you paid.

Don’t Pay For Followers- Of course, it’s tempting to buy followers and likes, but it could potentially hurt your business. Fake followers are purchased on a myriad of websites, and to a newbie, it can be enticing to buy 1,000 followers at a time. The problem with ghost followers is their lack of engagement, making it seem like you have a large following, but no one really cares about you. Not to mention the loss of integrity if you get caught faking it. Don’t try to fake it till you make it!

Use Only The Platforms That You’re Good At- Social networks are fantastic resources for businesses of all sizes to grow a following, BUT just because your blog or business needs to be on social media does not mean you should be on every network. This is a trap I see so many bloggers and small businesses fall into because they end up spreading themselves too thin by doing too much too fast. Focus on the two or three social sites that you are stellar at. Your audience will feed off that energy and want to engage. Think quality over quantity.

Stay Active- Another pitfall that new bloggers run into is only posting when they want to sell something. They become me, me, me posters. Creating a one-sided conversation. They’re basically taking out the “social” part out of “social media.” Avoid this by posting and sharing content other than your own that’s interesting to you and what you think your audience would enjoy as well. Also, answer comments! Think of it as a conversation, not a monologue.

Identify Your Audience- Your followers are your lifeline and the reason you do what you do. Treat them like they are your best friend in the world because guess what? They are! We have a rule here at Chic Headquarters. We don’t write a post unless we would want to click on it ourselves then tell our bestie about it! We want to provide content that our tribe can really connect to. The way to stay consistent with this is, to keep it real. That’s why; again, branding is paramount, and it’s the lens that you will see the world through.

Why I Wrote Girl, Stop Apologizing https://msrachelhollis.com/2019/03/06/why-i-wrote-girl-stop-apologizing/ Wed, 06 Mar 2019 16:04:09 +0000 https://thechicsite.com/?p=50639 Why did I write Girl, Stop Apologizing?

Because after Girl, Wash Your Face came out so many of you asked…How do I pursue a goal and be a great mom? How do I find time to work out when I have a stressful job? How can I turn my side hustle into a business? Well, the answer to all these questions is in this book.

This book has been a labor of love, hard work, and filled with my most tangible advice on how to achieve a goal. I wrote Girl, Stop Apologizing as the next step for everyone who read Girl, Wash Your Face. Girl, Wash Your Face was all about taking ownership of your life, your goals, your dreams. It was step one. With my latest book, I’m teaching you what step two looks like. What does taking ownership of your goals look like? You’ve identified your dreams…now what?

When I wrote Girl, Stop Apologizing I really took a deeper look at all the events in my life – all my successes and my missteps. Becoming an author. Building a business. Striving to be an exceptional partner and mother. What did that journey look like? What were the commonalities to those successes and what were the things that I felt I could have done better? I dug deep into my journey to getting where I wanted to be and tried to really understand what were the things I did every single day to get me there.

Girl, Stop Apologizing is for my community who is hungry for their dreams. It’s for my hustlers who are up till 2am working towards their goals. It’s for my mamas who are being pulled in ten different directions and are still making time for their personal goals. It’s for anyone who is striving to be the best version of themselves. This book just came out yesterday and I can’t wait for y’all to read it. If you want to hear my full story about why I wrote Girl, Stop Apologizing then check out the video below. The Time I Saw My Hero https://msrachelhollis.com/2019/01/23/the-time-i-saw-my-hero/ Wed, 23 Jan 2019 16:04:59 +0000 https://thechicsite.com/?p=50567 I know what y’all are probably thinking. I’m going to write a blog post about when I went to the Beyoncé concert. Even though she is THE QUEEN, this blog post is dedicated to my other hero, Tony Robbins. Back in January of 2018 Dave and I left to Palm Beach, FL.  We had been planning this trip for nearly a year and we were so excited to learn, grow, and soak up all of the knowledge. We went to Tony Robbin’s business conference where we spent 12+ hours every single day (for five days, yo) in a convention center learning about marketing and accounting and sales and the psychology of growing and running a company. It was flipping awesome!

Since I’m so passionate about my company I was ecstatic to discover that my favorite teacher has a business focused conference. As most people know (who hang out with me for at least 3 minutes) Tony Robbins is my hero. The two times I’ve gone to a conference of his have both been life-changing and as an entrepreneur of 14 years, I have ALWAYS wanted to go to his Business Mastery conference. But dude, it’s expensive… like, Oprah expensive. Like, Beyonce expensive. Like, you just found a nugget in a river in California during the gold rush expensive. But… growth + learning are my greatest values, and if you want something badly enough, and you work hard and save your money… well then, eventually you can afford Oprah-style conferences! So I made it a goal and we started saving and the actual experience was more empowering and life-giving than I could have hoped for. Just a reminder that your bucket list item might be something that nobody understands but you. But dude, your dream doesn’t have to make sense to ANYONE else… it just has to light your heart on fire and give you something to work for.

I had some amazing takeaways from the conference. One of the things I loved the most is when Tony talked about how life isn’t going to perfectly set you up for what you want to do. If you want to be a writer, you don’t need to clear out your guest room and design a writing sanctuary in your house. You just have to write. If you want to gain strength at the gym then you don’t have to go buy the newest Nike shoes for $200+ dollars. You just have to get up and start lifting those weights. You have to focus on what you want because if you are ALWAYS waiting for the perfect moment it’s never going to happen.

Having the opportunity to go on this trip together was incredible, even if it’s hard to be away from our babes for so long. People always ask me “how” we manage to find the time, the money, or the help for a getaway and the answer is: we make the time, we save the money, we ask for the help. Your marriage matters, your personal growth matters; be intentional about it. We even documented our trip for y’all to see even more behind-the-scenes.

If you haven’t gone to a personal growth conference yet, what are you doing sis?! Personal growth conferences are maybe my favorite thing in the world. It’s the best feeling in the world when you leave the conference and are ready to hit the ground running. You feel like you can conquer anything.

My love for them is what led me to plan my own. If you’ve been searching for a life-changing experience. Something that lights a fire under your butt. Then check out our second RISE Weekend happening in Dallas on July 19th-20th,  2019 with an extra optional day devoted to health and wellness on July 18th. RISE Weekend is a 2-day personal growth conference where women from every walk of life can come together to be inspired, supported and enveloped in a community. If you’re ready to RISE then set your timer because tickets go LIVE on The Hollis Co site January 28th, 2019 at 12pm CST. Don’t miss out!

4 Things that Doubled My Business https://msrachelhollis.com/2018/12/16/4-things-that-doubled-my-business/ Sun, 16 Dec 2018 13:36:23 +0000 https://thechicsite.com/?p=50506 As we head into the last six weeks of the year, many people start to ease up on the gas pedal. After all, it’s the season for parties and eggnog and turning the thanksgiving day leftovers into something magical. But if you’re a small business owner like I am (like I’ve been for the last fourteen years) then this season is one of two things: either it’s your busiest season ever because you’re selling a product that needs to kill it during the holidays OR you’re refueling before you begin every entrepreneurs geeked-out, favorite time of the year– planning for the new year! Squee!

Am I the only one who gets so excited about building vision boards and setting new goals? No? OK, well then pull up a chair because if you get excited about that sort of thing too then this is the blog post for you. Today I’d like to tell you the four decisions I made that fundamentally changed my business forever. And when I say “changed my business” I don’t mean that I suddenly got more Instagram followers I mean that I doubled my revenue.

These are the type of things that may seem obvious but dig a little deeper. Often times we know something but don’t actually do anything about it. Like, you know that eating more kale would be better for you, but that doesn’t necessarily stop you from the margaritas and the guac, am-I-right? So don’t just read this list, ask yourself if you’re truly doing these things in your own business.

I faced what I didn’t know and/or didn’t understand: Perhaps you’re much more mature in your business than I was, but I spent years and years ignoring an extremely important part of my company: finances. Truthfully, it wasn’t laziness or complacency that was driving the decision to avoid what I didn’t know. It was fear. Every time I looked at a financial statement and didn’t understand it, that voice in my head—you know the one, that jerk version of yourself that likes to point out all your flaws—would list out all the things I was deeply worried about. You’re too dumb to run a company. You’re not mature enough to lead this team. Rather than face it, I ignored it. Basically, as long as I had enough to cover payroll and the clients paid on-time, I didn’t dig any deeper. But in order to grow and scale any business, you must understand your overhead, your margin, your profit, etc. When I finally admitted to myself that I didn’t know enough about this area I owned the knowledge gap. Now I could do the work to learn what I needed to but I never could have gotten there if I wasn’t willing to admit what I was struggling with. What are the areas in your business that you feel insecure? That’s usually a signal that you don’t have enough knowledge you need to feel confident. Stop wasting time beating yourself up, that’s not helping! Admit it, figure out how to learn what you need to, take over the world.

I wrote my dreams down every day, as if they had already happened: I will go to my grave beating this drum and telling people this simple trick because I really do believe it is directly responsible for the success I’m experiencing now. Every day I write down ten big dreams I have for my life and I write them as if they’ve already happened. I read once that your subconscious focuses on what you give it. So if you tell yourself (and your subconscious), “I’m going to make a million dollars,” you don’t end up focusing on the goal but on the words “going to.” It’s just another to-do list for your brain. You didn’t give it direction. You didn’t ask your mind to help you figure out how. You only told it that you were going to do something, which isn’t especially powerful no matter how big a goal you set for yourself. So I write down my dreams at the start of every day. Those dreams I wrote down in old spiral notebooks or on my phone– which just proves you can do it anywhere– are the successes I’m living out today. Things like “I am a New York Times Bestselling author” or “I am a highly paid motivational speaker” happened not because of magic but because I began each workday setting my focus for where I was headed. You should absolutely pick up this practice in your own business and if you’d love a daily prompt be sure and check out our Start Today Journal which is this practice inside of gorgeous small batch cover design.

I had the courage to ASK 👏🏻 FOR 👏🏻 THE 👏🏻 SALE: Let me say it again for all my small biz owners– especially the ladies, I found the courage to ask for the sale and to charge what I’m worth for it. So, so, so many entrepreneurs struggle with this and they end up missing out on valuable opportunities to promote their business because they’re afraid of coming off as pushy. But dude, here’s the truth, if you don’t have revenue you don’t have a business. If this is an area you struggle with I want you to start at the beginning… do you believe in the product you’re selling? Let’s assume you do because otherwise, what are we doing here? If you do believe in your product then you need to anchor yourself in why you personally value it so much and be willing to share those features with your customers. For instance, if you scroll back up one paragraph I’m talking about my own product because I LOVE it.

I’m talking about the Start Today Journal because it’s my baby and it’s based off a practice I know works. I believe in this practice so much that I did an entire podcast about how you can do it without the Start Today Journal. This morning routine allows you to do it in any type of notebook, whether it’s the ones I have designed or just a scrap piece of paper, sticky note, or on the other side of your grocery list! I don’t feel weird about telling you about it because you’ll either be interested or you won’t be but I don’t think you’re going to chase me through the village at night with pitchforks simply because I told you about something you could buy. Too many people make it personal. Too many people decide that someone turning down an offer of business is a rejection on them as a person. Don’t be dumb. You say no to stuff all the time and it’s not because you hate the person offering, its because you: don’t have the money, the time, the interest, etc. Stop fearing rejection, start fearing your business never growing any bigger or failing altogether because you were too worried about “not bothering anyone”.

I armed myself with information: You guys, I cannot stress this enough: everything I know I learned for free. I watched YouTube videos, I borrowed books from the library, I listened to podcasts, I Googled every single thing you can imagine. There is nothing (literally not one thing) you need to know how to do in your business that doesn’t have at least 100 possible solutions available online. I have only a high school diploma and I’ve built a multi-million dollar business. I’m a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author and I’ve never taken a writing class. Video, podcasts, how to get a journal designed and printed… literally every single part of my business are things I taught myself for free. The areas of frustration in your company, those are the things you need to be researching how to do better. The things you’d like to accomplish this year, those are the topics of books you need to read. If you want to grow, then be in the know. Stop making excuses and start figuring out the answers. You are smart enough to take this business to the next level and you owe it to yourself and your family to do the work necessary to get it there!

5 Business Trip Essentials https://msrachelhollis.com/2017/11/20/5-business-trip-essentials/ Mon, 20 Nov 2017 13:00:50 +0000 https://thechicsite.com/?p=50089 This post was created in partnership with Michael Kors. All opinions expressed in the post are my own and not those of Michael Kors.

I feel like I should start this post by saying that I was wearing a gold Michael Kors watch years ago, before it became a thing. Remember the chunky gold watches that started it all? Well, they came out around the first time I did an event at Sundance and I used the profits from that job to buy myself one. I went for the men’s version because I want it to be as giant as possible so I can show it off. I went to Facebook just now to find photographic evidence for you of that first year with me and my Michael Kors watch. So here’s a shot from my baby cousin’s twenty-first birthday in Vegas (is that gel in my hair??) but I swear to you that watch made me feel fancy. I was rarely seen without it!

I wore my Michael Kors watch for over a decade (I’m sure you’ve seen me rock it 9,000 times) but about two months back it finally stopped working.

Yes, I took it to a watch repair place. Yes, I tried replacing the battery. Yes, I prayed over it. It was dead, but during our time together that Michael Kors watch helped me pull off some fantastic ensembles and always kept me on schedule.

So when the Michael Kors team reached out to ask about collaborating on a campaign for their new smartwatch I about peed my pants! This is a product that I have loved for years and now they’ve gone an upgraded it, making it perfect for my busy life… seriously, dream come true!!

I pulled together some ideas for the number one way I’ll be rocking my new Michael Kors Sofie Access smartwatch… business trips! These are my top-five, go-to, must-have business trip essentials.

A Versatile Jacket that you can dress up or down – this bomber/blazer is so perfect to rock to a business meeting on the plane or drinks out with clients.

Michael Kors Sofie Access smartwatch I think I’ve fully established my love for this brand and their watches… the new smartwatch and the Google Assistant feature has my schedule and email all in one place. Best part I can access the Google Assistant with the sound of my voice! You can also change the design on the face to your style (or whatever matches your outfit!)

Because the Michael Kors Sofie Access smartwatch is connected to my iPhone so it not only keeps me updated with my calendar but I can also keep track of my fitness and social platforms. I swear this is all I need for when I travel since I am always running from meeting to meeting. It’s both stylish and functional.

Stylish Bootie–  Often times I’m going from the plane directly into a meeting so I need to look pulled together. However, I will never, ever understand women who wear heels at the airport. What is your superpower?! I stick with something cute that has a low heel so I can walk for miles without discomfort.

Refillable Water Bottle- To always make sure you’re getting that H2O without having to buy anything I always travel with an empty and stylish water bottle. I wait until I’m through security and then I fill it out at a water fountain or Starbucks.

Wireless Ear Buds– I’m die-hard for a wireless earbud. I love that I can listen to podcasts or music when I travel and just as easily take a phone call. They’re also small enough that I can wear them without people even realizing I have them in.

Want to find out how I keep my energy up when I travel? This video has ALL the juicy detail.
